Still Life of Fruits

Still Life of Fruits

1659 - Painting - 64cm x 46cm

Jan Davidsz. de Heem's Still Life of Fruits, a 1659 painting, is a vibrant depiction of a bountiful still life. The artwork, measuring 0.64 meters in width and 0.46 meters in height, is housed in the Fabre museum. The painting showcases a rich array of fruits, including ripe red and green grapes, and peaches, artfully arranged alongside two red crayfish, several oysters on a silver platter, and a lemon. A silver pepper grinder sits amongst the fruit, adding a touch of domesticity to the scene. A glass of wine and a partially visible glass vessel are also included in the composition. The fruits and seafood rest on a blue cloth draped over a wooden table, against a dark brown background. The overall effect is one of abundance and careful arrangement, characteristic of Dutch still life painting of the period.
