Polyptych of the Deposition of Christ

Polyptych of the Deposition of Christ

1400 - 1410 - Painting

The polyptych of the Deposition is a tempera painting on wood (about 200×250 cm) by Paolo da Caylina the Younger, preserved in the church of Sant'Angela Merici in Brescia, in the second room to the right of the nave.

It is a polyptych composed of thirteen tables and two wooden inscriptions arranged in various squares, surrounded by a wooden architectural frame. It is probably the most precious work preserved in the church of Sant'Angela Merici, datable to the first half of the sixteenth century, but difficult to attribute as far as the author is concerned. Initially conceived as an altarpiece of the main altar and actually placed there, it has undergone various movements over the centuries, finally finding a place where it is still located.
