The Old Man of the Restelo (Columbano)

1904 - Painting - 2.46m x 1.96m

The Old Restelo is an oil painting on canvas from 1904 by the artist Portuguese from the time of realism Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro (1857-1929), a work that was created for the Camões Room, where he remains, of the Military Museum of Lisbon.

The painting represents the episode created by Luís de Camões in Os Lusíadas, in the stanzas of Canto IV, in which, when Lisbon departed the fleet commanded by Vasco da Gama, an Old Man rose up against the development of the Discoveries.
