Marius at Minturnae

1786 - Painting - 3.65m x 2.71m

Marius prisoner in Minturnes (also called Marius in Minturnes) is a history painting painted in 1786 by Jean-Germain Drouais. It represents the attempted execution of the consul Gaius Marius, a prisoner in Minturnes. With its austere theme painted in the neo-classical manner of the school of David, the painting pays tribute to the Oath of the Horaces of his master Jacques-Louis David. The painting is part of the Louvre Museum's collections of paintings.
