The procession of the schools in 1878

The painting The Parade of the Schools in 1878 by the Belgian painter Jan Verhas belongs to the collection of the Oldmasters Museum of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels.

The procession that forms the subject of this painting took place on the occasion of the silver wedding of King Leopold II and Queen Marie Henriette. About 23,000 schoolchildren from the Brussels districts paraded for Leopold and Marie Henriette on the Place des Palais. Leopold loved parades and parades.
