Ioannes Milton

Ioannes Milton is a print created by George Vertue in 1747. It depicts a portrait of John Milton within an ornate frame. Busts of Homer and Virgil flank the portrait at the base of the frame. Below the portrait is an inscription that reads: "Three Poets in three distant ages born, Greece, Italy, and England did adorn: The First, in loftiness of thought surpast; The Next, in majesty; in both the Last; The force of Nature coud no farther go: To make a Third She joynd the former Two. Dryden." The print is held by the National Library of Wales. The dimensions are not provided.
