The lullaby is a work painted by Alvar Cawén in oil colours on canvas, 56×78.5 cm, from 1921. It was recorded at the Ateneum Art Museum in the same year in 1921.
The lullaby depicts a Finnish baby maid in a peasant. With a song, a baby resting in a cradle is lulled into a dream by a baby. As a result of the central composition, the color scale of the entire painting seems to embody the emotional state of that song.
Alvar Cawèn was a member of the November group since 1917. The group resonated with the colours of the earth, and this began to be called the "pett bread symphony" so that this atmosphere has become a parable between the First World War and the mental atmosphere of the poor Finnish people who suffered from the Civil War. Cawèn himself was also an accomplished pianist. In his case, the chords of color often refer to the makers of musical harmony.
