Hi everyone, my name is Isabella! Today, we're going to look at a painting called "Rouen Cathedral, Portal and Tower d'Albane, Cloudy Weather." That's a big name for a painting, isn't it? nn Can you say "Rouen Cathedral"? nn That's the building in the painting! It's a really big, important church in France. nn Now, look at the painting. What colors do you see? nn The artist, Claude Monet, loved to paint outdoors. He wanted to show how the light changed throughout the day. Do you think it was sunny or cloudy when he painted this? nn That's right, it was a cloudy day! Monet used lots of blues and grays to show the clouds and the shadows they made on the cathedral. nn If you look closely, you'll see that Monet didn't use straight lines. He used tiny brushstrokes of color that blend together when you stand back. It makes the cathedral look a little blurry, like you're seeing it through a light fog. nn Monet painted lots of pictures of this same cathedral at different times of day and in different weather. He wanted to show how the light changed the way things looked. Isn't that cool? nn What do you think about this painting? Do you like how Monet used color and light?
