Back from the ball

Return from the Ball, also Sanna – a painting by the Polish painter Józef Chełmoński from 1879, located in the Gallery of Polish Art 1800-1945 of the Silesian Museum in Katowice.

The painting is a repetition with minor changes of the older work of Chełmoński, bearing the same title (also Girl in a Sleigh) from 1873. It is a genre scene. The painter depicted a horse-drawn carriage speeding on a winter evening. In the back sits a girl with a braid. The painting, measuring 80.5 × 160 cm, was created in 1879 in Paris. The signature is located in the lower left corner: JÓZEF CHEŁMOŃSKI 1879 | Paris. The Silesian Museum purchased the painting in the House of Art in Warsaw in 1928.
