Only god!

God alone! is an oil painting on canvas by the Portuguese Francisco Augusto Metrass made in 1856 and which is on display at the Chiado Museum in Lisbon.

According to Regina Anacleto, God! is one of the most powerful images of Portuguese romantic painting. Metrass, who had joined as a professor of historical painting at the Lisbon Academy of Fine Arts in 1854, presents Only God! in the triennial of the Academy in 1856, screen that is a paradigm of romanticism Portuguese for its dramatism.
