Charles Knuutinpoika Bonde leaving Vyborg Castle for Stockholm for the Royal Election in 1448 (rust. Karl Knutson Bonde avtågar från Viborgs slott 1448 till kungavalet i Stockholm) is a 1886 history painting by Swedish-born painter Severin Falkman, who lived in Finland. It's Falkman's most famous work. The painting depicts the colourful convoy of Charles Knuutinpoika Bonde, who ruled the majority of Finland, leaving Vyborg Castle in 1448. Charles Knuutinpoika is himself a blond-haired and armored man riding a white horse in the middle. The subject of the painting is based on real events, as 800 men have reportedly been involved in Charles Knuutinpoika's convoy. He was also elected King of Sweden. The layout of the painting shows Falkman's specialisation in the design of historical stage illustrations. Falkman worked on the painting for several years and conducted a careful background check. The first drafts of the subject date back to the late 1870s, but the painting was not completed until 1886. Falkman, who lived in Helsinki in the 1880s, was enthusiastic about Karelianism and then familiarised himself with Eastern Finland. The painting was already purchased in the collections of the Ateneum Art Museum in the year of its completion. It is now located in the yellow hall of the Presidential Palace.
