The Hermit

The Hermit (Russian: Пустынник) is a painting by the Russian symbolist painter Mikhail Nesterov. Its first version was created in 1888. A year later, in 1889, the painter returned to the subject, creating an image of larger dimensions and a more extensive composition. It is nesterov's first painting to appear in the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
