Sale of a Serve is an 1866 painting by Nikolai Nevrev, exhibited at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. If the painting is dated 1866, the title specifies that it is a scene from a past still close. The abolition of serfdom in Russia in 1861 had a limited impact in some areas: thus serfs linked to state lands were not released from their status until 1866.

This painting, in addition to its "social" aspect, makes it possible to appreciate how much the "literary" side comes before the pictorial side in most itinerants.
