It's made of wood, and it looks a little bit old and maybe a bit wobbly. What do you think it's made of? And what do you think it might be like to live in a house like that? Is it cozy or maybe a little bit chilly? nn --- nn See that person walking with a dog? That's a pilgrim! Pilgrims were people who traveled far away, often for religious reasons. They walked for a very long time! What do you think they might be carrying in their bag? And why do you think they have a dog with them? Is the dog a friend, or maybe a helper? nn --- nn Look at all the trees and plants around the house. The artist, Allaert van Everdingen, was really good at showing how things look and feel. He made the trees look different from each other, just like real trees! Can you see the different shapes and sizes of the trees? What kind of weather do you think it is? Is it sunny, cloudy, or windy? nn --- nn This picture isn't just a pretty picture of a house and a pilgrim. It tells us a story about life a long time ago. It shows us how people lived, what their houses looked like, and what it was like to travel. It makes us think about journeys and maybe even about being brave and strong, like the pilgrim!
