Young Peasant

The Gardener, also known as Portrait of a Young Peasant or Provençal Peasant, is an oil-on-canvas painting by Vincent van Gogh, dated September 1889 and preserved in the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. [1]​

The painting, considered the most important of the Dutch painter among those present in the Italian public collections, is a masterpiece of van Gogh's Provencal period[2] and shows some of the fundamental themes of his painting, such as the use of portraiture, the relationship with nature and the combination of primary and complementary colors.
