The Hut

The Hut

1671 - Painting - 65cm x 76cm

The Hut, a 1671 painting by Adriaen van de Velde, depicts a pastoral scene.

The artwork shows a rustic thatched hut nestled amongst trees and rolling hills. A woman sits near the hut, seemingly tending to a small child and some sheep. A man on horseback, carrying what appears to be a basket or container, is seen approaching the hut. Several sheep and cattle are present in the foreground and around the hut. The sky is partly cloudy, with patches of blue visible. The overall palette is muted earth tones, with greens, browns, and grays dominating the landscape. The painting is 0.65 meters wide and 0.76 meters high and is housed in the Rijksmuseum.
