The Annunciation

The Annunciation

1755 - Painting - 1.12m x 86cm

Hi everyone, my name is Isabella! Welcome to the museum! Today, we're going to look at a very special painting called "The Annunciation." It was painted a long, long time ago, way back in 1755! That's even before your grandparents were born! nn Can you say "The Annunciation?" That's a big word, isn't it? It means a very important announcement. Can you guess what the announcement in the painting might be about? nn Look at the painting. Who do you see? That's right, a woman and an angel! nn The beautiful lady in the colorful dress is Mary. She's reading a book when suddenly, the angel Gabriel appears! Gabriel has an important message from God. Can you point to Gabriel? What is he holding? nn That's right! He's holding a beautiful white lily. Lilies are a symbol of purity, and they remind us that Mary is a very special person. See the dove up above? That's the Holy Spirit, and it's shining a bright light down on Mary. nn The painter used bright colors and light to make this story feel magical and important. What do you think Mary is thinking? How do you think she feels? nn "The Annunciation" reminds us that amazing things can happen when we least expect them. It's a story about faith, hope, and the amazing things that can happen in our lives. nn Now, let's move on to the next painting and see what other stories we can discover together!
