Abraham et les anges

Abraham et les anges

1650 - Painting - 76cm x 78.5cm

Abraham et les anges is a 1650 painting by Sébastien Bourdon.

The artwork depicts a biblical scene, likely the visit of the three angels to Abraham. A man, presumably Abraham, is shown kneeling in the foreground, seemingly in reverence or supplication. Three figures, possibly the angels, stand in the middle ground, dressed in flowing classical garments. They appear to be engaged in a conversation or interaction with Abraham. In the background, there are other figures, possibly servants or other individuals, engaged in various activities within a courtyard or domestic setting. The setting suggests an outdoor space with trees and buildings. The overall style is Baroque, characterized by dramatic lighting, rich colors, and a sense of movement and emotion. The painting measures 0.76 meters in width and 0.785 meters in height and is housed in the Saint-Germain-en-Laye Civic Museum.
