The Lifting of the Wood of the Cross is a fresco (356x190 cm) by Piero della Francesca and Aids, part of the Stories of the True Cross in the main chapel of the Basilica of San Francesco in Arezzo, datable to 1452-1458. The fresco was probably painted in the first part of the work, before his stay in Rome (1458-1459). In this fresco in particular we recognize the dry and graphic hand of Giovanni da Piamonte (especially in the treatment of the curls of the hair), although the design is entirely attributable to Piero.
