Joven maternidad is one of the most representative and less known works of the first stage of the Spanish painter and sculptor Guillermo Silveira (1922-1987). It is painted in oil on tablex and its dimensions are 62 x 55 cm.
According to different sources, it could be the oil painting Maternidad joven presented in the exhibition hall of the Sociedad de Instrucción y Recreo Liceo de Mérida (Badajoz) from February 9 to 13, 1964 (n.º 19). [1] As Woman with Child (No. 5) or Encounter (No. 6), "we are shown to have been conceived with tears in our eyes." [2]
According to the labels that until now remain attached to the back, the painting was presented to the "III Valdepeñas Prize and XXIV Manchega Exhibition of Plastic Arts" (Valdepeñas [Ciudad Real], September 1963) and "XXII National Art Exhibition of the Trade Union Work of Education and Rest" (Logroño, June 1964). [3][4][1][5] In both cases, the respective shipments were completed by the paintings Exodus to the Sun (oil on canvas, 90 x 70 cm) and Factory, Blast Furnaces, Woman with Child, Encounter, Urban Landscape and Hallelujah, all of them from the early sixties.
