Girl Vacationing

Girl Vacationing

1925 - 1m x 1.75m

A holiday girl is a painting by Marià Pidelaserra i Brias (1877-1946) that is part of the collection of the Abelló Museum. This oil on canvas dates from 1925, when the author had practically abandoned the painting, annoyed by what he considered a poor reception of his work. This painting is 175 × 100 cm and presents the following inscription in the lower right corner: M. Pidelaserrra – 1925.

The picture depicts a young girl standing in a green short-sleeved dress with a white shirt collar. She wears espadrilles with green streaks and her hair is pulled with two braids on either side of her face. Behind him, we appreciate a rural landscape. On the left side, there is a farmhouse with a wooden pergola. The rest of the painting is occupied by lush, tight vegetation, which helps to enhance the predominance of green. At the bottom of the composition, Pidelaserra represents mountains using the aerial perspective. It could be Montseny, a place where the artist spent a long time there. It is a full and tight painting, in which the gigantic proportions of the figure stand out, which further increases the disproportion with the landscape that surrounds it.

In this pictorial work, Pidelaserra represents her daughter. A figure that Josep Casamartina catalogues as the anti-Ben Plantada by Eugeni d'Ors. Years later, specifically in 1928, Pidelaserra retouched the girl's face and softened her factions.
