Birthday

Birthday is a painting (81x100 cm) made in 1915 by the painter Marc Chagall, with the oil on cardboard technique.

It is kept in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The work is part of the series of paintings that praise the artist's love for his first wife.

Bella, in her book, recounts that, while decorating the room with flowers for her husband's birthday, Chagall asked her to stop because he wanted to portray her.

The image is characterized by the two spouses suspended in the air and the artist who, to kiss his wife, takes an impossible angle. Chagall meticulously paints everything, indicating that when he is with his wife Bella everything of reality is perfect and it seems that she can bring him happiness.
