It depicts King William I of Orange on his deathbed.

It is kept at the Louvre Museum in Paris. In 2014, it was loaned to the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon as part of the exhibition The Invention of the Past. Histoires de cœur et d'épée en Europe, 1802-1850.
