Behind her, through the window, a dimly lit interior scene is visible, suggesting other figures engaged in some activity. To the right of the girl, a dead rooster lies on the windowsill. A potted plant sits on the windowsill to the left of the basket. The overall palette is dark and rich, typical of Dutch Golden Age painting.
