Ruins with Figures

Ruins with Figures

1747 - Painting - 74.9cm x 63.2cm

Hi everyone, my name is Isabella! Today, we're going to be detectives and solve the mysteries of a painting. Are you ready for an adventure? nn This painting is called "Ruins with Figures." It was painted a long, long time ago, in 1747, by an artist named Giovanni Paolo Panini. That's a very long name, isn't it? You can just call him Panini! nn

What do you see in this painting? nn

Yes, those are called ruins! Ruins are what's left behind when buildings get very, very old. Panini loved to paint ruins, especially ruins from ancient Rome. Rome was a very important city a long, long time ago, and it had amazing buildings. nn

Look closely! Do you see the people in the painting? What do you think they're doing? nn

Panini wanted to show us how even though these buildings are old and broken, they're still beautiful and interesting. He also wanted to imagine what it would be like to travel back in time and see these buildings when they were new! nn

Now, let's go on to the next painting and see what other mysteries we can uncover!
