
Defense of Mazagran is a painting by Henri Félix Emmanuel Philippoteaux painted in 1841, exhibited today at the Palace of Versailles. Oil on canvas measuring 2.56 × 3.95 meters, it represents a scene of the battle of Mazagran in 1840. This is a commission from King Louis-Philippe aimed at justifying the conquest of Algeria by France and intended for the Museum of the History of France that he has just created at the Palace of Versailles.
