
Mikaeri Bijinzu is a masterpiece from the 17th century by Moronobu Hishikawa, a painter in the Edo period (the establishment of ukiyo-e). Silk book coloring It depicts a beautiful woman wearing a scarlet costume suddenly turning around (looking back), and is a very famous Ukiyo-e in the world. The popularity of this female figure was so popular that it was called 'the beauty of Moronobu is an Edo woman.' It has been adopted in the designs of “Stamp Hobby Week” issued in 1948 (Showa 23) and 1991 (Heisei 3), and “Postal Stamp History Series, Vol. 6” issued in 1996 (Heisei 8). It is currently owned by the Tokyo National Museum.
