Ships at the raging sea

1866 - Painting - 78cm x 61cm

Ships at the raging sea is an 1866 painting by Ivan Ayvazovsky. It depicts a dramatic seascape with two sailing ships caught in a violent storm. The dark, stormy sky dominates the upper portion of the canvas, contrasting with the churning, greenish-grey waves below. One ship is shown more prominently, partially submerged and seemingly in distress, while another is visible in the distance, also struggling against the tempestuous sea. In the lower left corner, a small rowboat with two figures is shown battling the waves, adding to the sense of peril and struggle against the elements. The painting measures 0.78 meters in width and 0.61 meters in height and is part of the Vyatskiy Art Museum collection.
