Landscape

The landscape is an oil painting on canvas by Finnish artist Berndt Lindholm, 32.5×59 cm, from 1869. The painting is part of the collections of the Ateneum Art Museum.

The landscape was completed in the summer of 1869 near Gothenburg, where Lindholm's fiancée lived. The painting is one of Berndt Lindholm's first works in which he has detached himself from the previous painting tradition and sought to paint the luminosity values of the work. This is what he had studied in Paris, where Lindholm had gone to study the previous year, in 1868. He had become a supporter of French landscape painting as early as the previous autumn of 1869. Previously, he had studied in Düsseldorf, Germany.
