The Spring Departure of Lady Guoguo (虢國夫人遊春圖) was a work by the Chinese painter Zhang Xuan (Chinese: 張萱; pinyin: Zhāng Xuān), dated to the Kaiyuan era (開元 Kāi yuán, 713–741) from the reign of Emperor Xuanzong (唐玄宗) of the Tang Dynasty. The original work has been lost. However, the Provincial Museum of Liaoning (Shenyang) preserves a copy of this work by Zhang Xuan,[1] made with ink and color on a silk roll. [1][2] The copy was made during the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127),[1][2] and has sometimes been attributed to the Chinese Emperor Song Huizong (1082–1135). [2] Another copy by the painter Li Gonglin (National Palace Museum, Taipei) remains.
Lady Guoguo (虢國夫人) was one of the sisters of Concubine Yang Guifei, who attained enormous power in China after Emperor Xuanzong fell in love with her. In the play, Lady Guoguo has been depicted in the center of a small entourage, with a plump body and calm demeanor. In fact, it is the pictorial representation of a beautiful lady transmitted with a fine brushstroke.
