Visitation

Visitation

1520 - 1530 - Painting

Visitation is an oil painting on wood, from c. from 1525 to 1550, by the artist Portuguese of the Renaissance Gregório Lopes (c. 1490-1550), a work that is currently in the Évora Museum.

The Visitation of Gregory Lopes obviously represents the biblical episode of the visit of Mary, pregnant with Jesus, to her cousin Isabel, who was much older and who was also close to giving birth to John the Baptist.

Gregory Lopes is attributed to the creation of three other versions of the Visitation (all in Gallery), one from the extinct Convent of S. Bento, another that belonged to the Altarpiece of Paradise, being these currently in the MNAA, and another still coming from the Convent of Bom Jesus de Valverde that is currently also in the Museum of Évora.
