Portrait of a boy

Portrait of a boy

1852 - 1855 - Painting - 30cm x 37cm

The Portrait of a Boy (Danish Portræt af en dreng) by Camille Pissarro is a pre-impressionist oil painting from his early years in the Danish West Indies. It was not until 2018 that it was reassigned to the artist and is therefore not included in Camille Pissarro's Wildenstein catalogue raisonné of 2005. The work was created in 1852–1855 before Pissarro moved to Paris, where he became one of the main figures of French Impressionism.

The painting had never been open to the public until 2018 and had never been the subject of an auction. It is important both for the culture of the Danish West Indies and for pissarro's artistic development in its early stages.
