Napoleon Bonaparte on Board the 'Bellerophon' in Plymouth Sound is an oil painting by the English painter Charles Lock Eastlake in 1815 and in the collection of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London.
On 15 July 1815, former French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte surrendered at Rochefort to Captain Frederick Lewis Maitland, commanding the British frigate HMS Bellerophon. Maitland brought Napoleon to England, where he was detained on a frigate at Plymouth Sound while his fate was being decided. Napoleon appeared aboard the Bellerophon at about 6 p.m. so that he could be seen by numerous curious tourists gathered on boats, which enabled Eastlake to make quick sketches needed for a portrait of Bonaparte.
