Portrait of Marie Triepcke

Portrait of Marie Triepcke

1885 - Painting - 1.1m x 1.2m

Portrait of Marie Triepcke is an 1885 painting by Bertha Wegmann. It is considered a major work. Marie married P.S. Krøyer in 1889. The painting has received the largest hammer blow for a work by a female artist in Denmark, with the prize DKK 3,100,000. With support from the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, the Augustinus Foundation and the New Carlsberg Foundation, the painting was purchased by the Hirschsprung Collection, together with the painting Interior with field bouquet, the artist's painting box, palette and a half-smoked cerut, also painted by Wegmann.

The two new acquisitions mean that the Hirschsprung Collection now has 12 works by Bertha Wegmann in its collection. As part of its strategy in recent years, the museum has worked to expand the collection of female 19th-century artists in the museum's collections. The Hirschsprung Collection plans to create an exhibition about Wegmann in the spring of 2022.
