Somosierra

The Charge in the Somosierra Gorge is an oil painting by Polish Romantic painter Piotr Michałowski. The Charge of the 3rd Squadron of the 1st Regiment of Emperor Guards, conducted on 30 November 1808 at the Battle of Somosierra Pass in Spain, was a favorite subject of the artist, who dedicated several of his works and numerous sketches to it. The painting of Charge in the Somosierra Gorge was created around 1837, after the painter's return from Paris. Currently, the work is in the National Museum in Kraków.
