Davide e Golia (Lorenzo Lotto)

Davide e Golia (Lorenzo Lotto)

1524 - Painting - 1.005m x 67cm

The David and Goliath inlays are part of the inlays of the choir of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. It is located on the right side of the access to the presbytery and visible to the faithful because it faces the central nave. The inlay is composed of the depictive part of the biblical account of David and Goliath and a cover that must protect it from the wear and tear of time and that was removed during the most important religious services. The inlaid has a very complex and rich in details representation.
