Tiradentes esquartejado (Tiradentes quartered) is a painting by Pedro Américo. It depicts the remains of Joaquim José da Silva Xavier (known as "Tiradentes"), a revolutionary who advocated Brazil's independence from Portugal and who was hanged and then quartered by the authorities for trying to start a rebellion.
