The Handmaid of the Harem is a painting by Paul-Désiré Trouillebert in 1874, which represents a half-body portrait, that of an unknown woman. This 130 × 97 cm oil painting on canvas is currently kept at the Museum of Fine Arts in Nice, also known as the Jules-Chéret Museum in reference to the French painter and poster artist.
The Handmaid of the Harem quickly became one of the most emblematic paintings of "Orientalism", a movement to which the work belongs.
