Landscape

1866 - Painting - 63.5cm x 38cm

Landscape, an 1866 painting by Asher Brown Durand, is a tranquil depiction of a pastoral scene. The artwork, measuring 0.635 meters wide and 0.38735 meters high, is housed in the Brigham Young University Museum of Art. The painting shows a gently curving river reflecting the light of a hazy sky. The riverbank is lined with lush green grass, dotted with rocks and a few figures, possibly farmers or travelers, are visible near the river's edge. A dirt road winds through a grove of trees on the left, leading towards the river. Cattle are also visible along the road. The overall mood is serene and peaceful, characteristic of the Hudson River School style.
