The Tears of Saint Peter

The Tears of San Pedro is a subject of which, according to Harold Wethey, seventeen works have survived with a greater or lesser intervention by El Greco. According to this demanding critic and art historian, only five works are fully original by the Cretan master, while the rest have more or less intervention from his workshop. Also according to Harold E. Wethey, of these twelve workshop works, only four are of real interest, and their catalogue includes references X-433, X-434, X435 and X-440. The rest are in poor condition, partial, mutilated, untraceable or poor quality copies. [1]
