Saint Mary Salome and Her Family

Saint Mary Salome and Her Family is a painting created by Bernhard Strigel between 1520 and 1528. It is housed in the National Gallery of Art. The painting measures 0.657 meters in width and 1.25 meters in height.

The artwork depicts Saint Mary Salome, seated centrally, in a rich red gown, with a white veil. She holds a book, and is flanked by two figures, presumably her husband and another family member. The husband is dressed in a green robe with yellow sleeves and a fur collar, while the other figure wears a red robe and a distinctive hat. A young child, possibly Saint Mary Salome's son, sits at her feet, also holding a book. At the bottom left, a younger child is seated, engrossed in reading a book. A dark-colored bird, possibly a raven, is positioned on the floor near the younger child. The background features a gold-leaf patterned design.
