This article develops the Opera section of the main article Nicolae Grigorescu. Maternity is a painting by Romanian artist Nicolae Grigorescu. The work was signed by the painter but was not dated. Specialized criticism established the year in which it was created - 1867, when the artist returned for a short time to Romania from Barbizon. The picture depicts the impoverished interior of a peasant house where a mother watches her sleeping child. This theme was also resumed by Nicolae Grigorescu in the painting made in 1870 entitled Vatra de la Rucăr.
