Pala Avogadro

Pala Avogadro

1548 - Painting - 2.75m x 4.3m

The Avogadro Altarpiece is an oil painting on canvas (430x275 cm) by Romanino with probable collaboration of Lattanzio Gambara, datable to 1548-1550 and preserved in the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia.

Marked by a strong degradation of the pictorial mantle and the underlying preparation, the canvas is probably one of the first results of the collaboration between Romanino and Lattanzio Gambara, started from the middle of the century: the first would have painted the figures, while the second would have dealt with the background, which in fact was entirely executed before all the rest in the x-rays conducted during the twentieth-century restoration.
