Passagem do Humaitá

Passage of Humaitá dated 1886 is a study by the Santa Catarina painter Victor Meirelles.The gouache on canvas depicts a war scene of the Paraguayan War. Episode occurred in 1868, in which the Brazilian squadron forced the crossing of the fortified position, under enemy bombardment. The artist visited where this historic military operation took place in preparation for the execution of the painting. The work belongs to the collection of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (Pina).
