Thalia, Muse of Comedy

Thalia, Muse of Comedy

1620 - Painting - 1.5m x 1.95m

Talia, muse of comedy is a painting by the painter Giovanni Baglione.

The muses were queens of the currents and springs later transformed into divinities of the arts and their technique. [1] Daughters of Zeus and Mnemosine,[2] her name Talia means flourishing.

Represented alone or in groups, they were the subject of commissions and abundant artistic representations (Sarcophagus of the Muses, Louvre)

The goddess, lying on a large couch, with classic buildings in the background, mocks by pointing with her hand at a mask, an attribute that identifies her next to ivy. [3]
