The Schadow Circle

The Schadow Circle

1830 - 1840 - Painting - 1.57m x 1.08m

The Schadow Circle, also known as The Bendemann Family and Their Friends, is the title of a group portrait created jointly by the painters Eduard Bendemann, Theodor Hildebrandt, Julius Hübner, Wilhelm Schadow and Karl Ferdinand Sohn in 1830/1831. As a document of a closely connected family and artistic circle of Romanticism, from which the Düsseldorf School of Painting emerged, it has a high art-historical significance.
