The Valley of Mexico by José María Velasco

The Valley of Mexico by José María Velasco

1877 - Painting

The Valley of Mexico, created by the Mexican painter José María Velasco (1840-1912), is an oil painting on canvas measuring 160 cm x 229.7 cm and is housed in the National Museum of Art of Mexico City, National Institute of Fine Arts. It belongs to the landscape avant-garde that was born in Mexico thanks to the author of this work in 1877.

The painting caused controversy for its naturalistic and landscape techniques that managed to create an illusion of photography that was not common at that time.
