Tub in a mirror

Tub in a mirror

1909 - Painting - 84.5cm x 73cm

Hi everyone! My name is Isabella, and I'm so excited to show you a really cool painting today! It's called "Tub in a Mirror," and it's by an artist named Pierre Bonnard. He painted it a long, long time ago, in 1909! nn

This painting is like peeking into someone's bathroom. Can you imagine what it would be like to see someone's private space like that? It shows a lady, and she's only partly dressed. She's standing near a sink, maybe getting ready for the day. See the pretty yellow clothes she's wearing? nn

Look closely! There's a big mirror in the painting. What do you see in the mirror? That's right, you see the lady again, but also a big, dark grey bathtub! The mirror shows us a reflection, like when you look in a mirror at home. But Bonnard's mirror is a little bit wonky, a little bit blurry, isn't it? nn

The colors in this painting are really interesting. They're not super bright, but they're still beautiful. See the oranges and yellows in the lady's clothes and the floor? And the blues and greens of the sink? Bonnard used lots of browns and oranges, like the colors of autumn leaves. What colors do you see that you like best? nn

Bonnard didn't paint everything perfectly. He used his brush in a way that makes the painting look a little bit fuzzy, a little bit like a dream. It's not super detailed, but it shows us how the lady feels in her bathroom. It makes us feel calm and peaceful, doesn't it? What do you think the lady is thinking about? nn

This painting is all about everyday life. It shows us that even simple things, like taking a bath, can be beautiful and interesting. Bonnard showed us that even ordinary things can be art! Isn't that amazing? nn

So, next time you're in your bathroom, remember this painting. Maybe you can see the beauty in your own everyday life, too! Thank you for looking at this painting with me today! I hope you enjoyed it!
