The Resurrection of Lazarus

The Resurrection of Lazarus

1706 - Painting - 6.64m x 3.88m

The Resurrection of Lazarus is a painting by the painter Jean Jouvenet, made in 1706 and painted for the Church of St.Martin-des-Champs, which is housed in the Louvre Museum, Paris.

The theme, one of the most represented in the history of Art, is illustrated by Jouvenet in a huge display of characters. In addition to the traditional ones (Jesus of Nazareth, the sisters of Lazarus and the deceased himself),[1] the artist paints a score of witnesses of the miraculous event, which allows him to narrate a multitude of gestures and reactions to the miracle of Jesus.

The engraver Jean Audran made an engraving of this painting. [2]
