Supper at the House of Burgomaster Rockox

Supper at the House of Burgomaster Rockox

1630 - 1635 - Painting - 96.5cm x 62.3cm

Supper at the House of Burgomaster Rockox is a painting created by Frans Francken the Younger between 1630 and 1635.

The artwork, housed in the Alte Pinakothek, depicts a lively supper scene within a richly decorated room. The painting measures 0.965 meters in width and 0.623 meters in height.

The scene is filled with numerous figures engaged in various activities. A central table laden with food, possibly oysters, is the focal point, around which several people are seated and served. Other figures are engaged in music, conversation, and other activities throughout the room. The room itself is lavishly appointed, with numerous paintings and busts adorning the walls, suggesting the wealth and status of the host. A parrot on a stand adds a touch of exoticism to the scene. The overall style is characteristic of 17th-century Flemish painting, with attention to detail in both the figures and the interior setting.
